Rib: A Type-Safe Language for Talking to WebAssembly

WebAssembly is becoming the universal runtime—but interacting with Wasm components across languages, platforms, and boundaries remains messy, error-prone, and often lacking type safety.

Rib is a new language designed to solve that. With Rust-inspired syntax and a focus on type-safe, reliable interactions, Rib makes working with WebAssembly components easier, more expressive, and less error-prone.In this talk, I’ll introduce Rib: how it works, what it brings to the WebAssembly ecosystem, and how it already powers the API gateway in Golem OSS. We’ll explore how Rib leverages strong typing to provide safe interop with Wasm interfaces, what it’s like to write code in Rib using its REPL, and where we’re going next.
